Art Kit Box Design

I selected these images with a concluded concept in mind. I took an image of a brain because that is the root of where creativity breeds.
Then took branches from an old coiled tree and then broke them through the brain symbolizing the thinking process of creativity, how one signal thought expands and develops into multiple concepts. I wanted to take this opportunity to experiment with image manipulation. Therefore, I took a horse, wings, and created a unicorn. I combined butterfly wings and an image of a model and created a fairy and mended a model, a fish tail, two seashells, and a starfish and created a mermaid. I puzzled together these mystical creatures because they all once upon a time stemmed from an imagination. Overall I created fantasy.

The vibrant background almost makes the who scene look unreal. This portrays a dream like mindset, one in which only a creative mind can visualize. These vivid colours, at first glance, will grab ahold any demographic. It will inspire the creative mind to go above and beyond limitation. The multiple mixture of colours combined brings a positive feeling to the consumer, making them want to proceed in purchasing the product.

I embedded the word "Creative" in an innovated way. I attempted to make it appear as a imprint. Symbolizing that the brain is just a pile of mush, until you take it, use it, and mould it to what you desire. I realized with so much going on in the image, simple, clean font may be most effective.

Using photoshop, one of the techniques I used was the burn and dodge tool to create shadows and highlights in the appropriate places. I twist and turned some of the images using the warp tool to bond the images together to make it look realistic, as if each image belongs. I placed glare highlights on the make believed characters to enhance the mythical appearance.

There is no better way to attract a creative mind then to design a piece that can be interpreted to relate to their energetic thoughts.

"Dip" - Illustration Friday

Helloooo,

Here is my illustration friday "Dip". I wanted it to evolve around that word "Dip" but at the same time stay within the walls of my developing style. I've always appreciated art that has deeper meaning. Art that makes you think. Sometimes you can just appreciate the artist for being able to portray their emotions through imagery and maybe you can find yourself relating through your own interpretation. These are some skills I'm trying to explore and develop through my art. I hope you like.

Visual Interpretation Montage

Medium: Painted with Gouache/Ink

For my final assignment in my Creative Illustration class, we were assigned to take a song, a movie, or a novel, and create a visual interpretation of it. On top of that we had to link the imagery together to create a montage. My montage evolved around the song “Off the Wall” By Marcio Novelli. I chose this song because when I listen to it my imaginations wonders off and I visualize what the lyrics are portraying. With the lyrics “Thoughts haunt through hours of shadows, pulling me down again”, I thought of these dark shadows pulling this person down and with every bit of strength failing to escape from them. Then with “Found a place inside my dreaming, painted so black on white”, this gave me the idea of doing the whole piece in black and white, except for the the man, to portray a dream like state. A feeling of unreality. A feeling of not belonging. Then with “ Like sex, fear, love, old fashioned movies; such woeful plight!”, I decided to have a old film reel falling down the page. This gave me an opportunity to show depth which overall made the imagery more appealing. Then I wanted to show that the film on the reel presents snap shots of a man lifting his head from his shaking hands which I took from the lyrics “Lift my head up from my shaking hands; I tremble where I stand”, but this also shows the “Woeful plight” that the “old fashion movies” demonstrate, which led me to burn the end of the reel. The smoke from the burning reel gave me an opportunity to link the dark shadows with it. “Tear these pictures off the wall” made me visualize a brick wall with old polaroid pictures flying through the air after being torn off the wall, these pictures link through the flow that the imagery has achieved. The tape on the lips of the man symbolizes the bitter taste of the tears being held in, he can't escape from them, which came from the lyrics "Wiping tears from off your face, Has never held such bitter taste". With the heartache and suffering that this song delivers, I find myself relating to these emotions, and these emotions I have found has always dragged along humiliation, which is why the man is naked. This could also show that sometimes what you view on the exterior of a person, it may not be what is really going on beneath those clothes, on the inside. This overall image shows a state of distress. With these emotions being emphasized, it creates an unsettling feeling for the views. This was something I wanted to achieve.

"Rescue" - Illustration Friday

Hey everyone! Here is my Illustration friday "Rescue". It took me a while to think of this concept. I didn't want to do a typical rescue concept, I wanted to really try and step out of my box. I completed this with ink and I used photoshop for colour. I really wanted to experiment with digital colouring. So i tried something a little different. Also with easter around the corner I thought it would be a little fun to add a bunny stuffed animal, even though my first idea was to do a bear. I'm really trying to develop a style that I like that can be my own. Well anyways, I hope you like it.

Illustration Friday - "Subterranean"

Subterranean - lying beyond what is openly revealed or avowed (especially being kept in the background or deliberately concealed);

Usually I like to add a description to my piece's, so that my reader's can understand what exactly I'm portraying. I feel like doing something a bit different this time. When I illustrated this and came up with the concept, my mind and emotions were in a personal state. Therefore, I would like everyone that views this to have there own personal interpretation of it. Maybe you can relate to your interpretation, or maybe you can just appreciate the deep meaning and sentiment represented. I hope you like it.

Slide #1: Man wakes up to alarm clock.

Slide #2: Man brushes his teeth.

Slide #3: Man walks down the hall way to the kitchen. His kid's stuff everywhere. Trips over the baseball, slips on the skateboard.

Slide #4: All of a sudden his dog jumps up at him, giving him kisses.

Slide #5: Opens the cupboard to find the same old cereals. Then he notices the kid's cereal (Corn pops), and grabs it down.

Slide #6: Pours the corn pop's with a bit of milk.

Slide #7: Sit's down to enjoy. Then all of a sudden this child's hand comes reaching out of his cereal bowl.

Slide #8: Then POOF! The hand grabs him into the cereal bowl.

Slide #9: Then he looks down at himself and then realizes he's a kid again. Which goes well with my original tag line "Take a moment, Be a kid again!".

The overall message I am trying to portray is don't be afraid to take a moment out of your daily stress's and feel like a kid again. The feeling of not having a worry in sight.

"Brave" - Illustration Friday

Hey everyone! Here is my Illustration Friday "Brave". I completed this with watercolour and outlined in ink. I'm portraying the bravery of a young man going through agonizing pain and suffering to cut his heart out, his heart that has been broken and damaged so many times. Finally stitched up, to give and to trust it to his dream, his love.

Overall, I sort of wish I had more then a week to complete this. I find whenever I use real mediums (non-digital), a week just doesn't seem long enough. I know that if I had a bit more time I could of really been able to elaborate on the concept using the medium I decided on.

When I sketched this out I really wanted to capture the wrinkles, and overall appearance of a old man's hand. I find that having the babies hand for comparison it emphasized that. Generally I wanted to capture life and how precise it is.

Step 1: Cereal Commercial Story Board - Rough Thumbnails

Hey everyone,

This is step 1 of my 3 step process to illustrating a commercial story board. This assignment derived from the assignment I had before this one that involved me creating an advertisement for my cereal (Click here to view). Here are some very very rough sketched thumbnails of my concept.

The Idea is to have a man waking up to his alarm clock, brushing his teeth, walking down the hall of chaos to the kitchen, opening the cupboard, to choose the yummy pop's cereal over healthy cereal. Then, you see him pour his cereal into a bowl, sit to eat, takes a bite, then poof, he turns into a kid again.

Stay Awake! Stay Awake!

Hello Everyone! Today I am posting up something I just completed. It is based on how I feel today. Last night I only got 3 hours of sleep and then it was off to my 8am morning class. I did everything possible to keep myself awake, I drank black tea, had this nutritious energy powder in water, I was set to go. Oh boy did I have energy! I was shaking like a mad man. My thoughts were going a mile a minute and my memory is such a blur. I felt like a robot, my body was moving and doing what I had to do but my brain was not functioning at all. What an interesting day!:P The funny think is I felt more creative today then I have ever felt. I definitely took advantage of this. :D

I created this piece with graphite and ink, then brought it into photoshop to paint it with my tablet.

"Kelloggs Corn Pop's" Concept Ad

Hey Everyone! Here is a step by step of an assignment that I just completed. This assignment was to take a cereal and create an advertisement that appeals to adults. My concept derived from an idea of having a child sinking in adult business suit, eating the cereal to portray take a moment out of your busy hectic live and feel like a kid again by eating the cereal. When I completed my composition for this, I realized that this was an opportunity to be a little experimental and use a medium that I really enjoy using. Therefore I took a newspaper and cut out all the business headlines and articles, then I pasted them on the board in a scattered formation. Then I used acrylic paint to create the image. I used a little bit of digital with the logo and "Take a moment..". Finally I used oil pastels to draw out the child handwritten font, to create a crayon effect. Over all I think if I had a bit more time to do this I would of been able to be more detail and would of spent more time perfecting it. Unfortunately I was having some trouble with scanning the final, so it didn't show up as detail as the original. Though I feel proud of the whole concept. Let me know what you think!

"Twinkleez" Cereal Box

Good morning! Here is a cereal box design that I had to complete for third semester at Mohawk College. For the assignment we had to first create our own cartoon character. Then, we had take a photograph for our photography class and use it as a reference to draw and render out cereal bowl. Lastly, we had to design the whole box with a theme and then draw/render it. The entire assignment was rendered with markers.

I was trying to capture a mystical theme. In a class right now we are taking this design and re-creating it in Coreldraw. I'll be sure to post up that final composition when it is completed. I found a lot of difficulties in creating a cartoon character that was my own. Overall, I feel pretty proud of this piece. I hope you like it! :D

"Focused"

The mediums I used to create this were acrylic paints, markers, wash paints, and i added a touch of digital effects. The word that inspired this piece was "focused". Therefore I created an image of a bull, with a focused look in his eyes, as he charges at the red cloth.

"Smirnoff" Advertisement

Hello Everyone, I just got home from the gym, and I was just about to battle some homework. When I figured I'd post a piece of art work. I completed this second semester at Mohawk College. This was done completely with acrylic paints. It was an assignment to take an existing product and design an advertisement for it.

I am able to see a lot of errors, and things I would have done differently. First, I probably would of studied and analyzed the appearance of ice cubes in water at another level. I would clean up the logo, make it look sharper. I would of made the splash in the drink more realistic, and possibly add some cast shadows to create a more dramatic effect.

At the time I gave my 110%. Though I know if I were able to redo this, I would be able to fix up a lot of it. I also probably would have made the concept of the design more unique, not so cliched. Though I do like the raspberries! :D

The Celebration of Life

Hey guys, I thought that I would do something a little different tonight. Usually I post up my art, but I thought I'd let everyone see a more personal side of me. Get to know me a little better and hopefully I can inspire some people to appreciate the things they have in their lives, not always wanting the things they don't have. These two people next to me are the most amazing people in the world, two genuine angels. I can guarantee that you will never come across anyone who is more compassionate,and loving as these two people. I had a day of bliss, followed by an incredibly beautiful night. I had the two most important people in my life next to me in the kitchen as we battled the most delicious vegan meal we have all ever tasted. We asked ourselves as we sat down to this gourmet dinner what the occasion was, and we all quickly realized that we don't need some elaborate occasion to celebrate, we are healthy, happy, and all living an amazing life with so many people around us who love us. With never ending thanks to these two people. They have opened my eyes to the beauty that life brings me. They have made me realize how much life is worth appreciating every minute. I choose to. If your heart is still beating, there isn't a thing in the world worth feeling an ounce of negativity for.

Grocery Store Sign

Hey everyone, I just thought I would quickly post a little something before I go to bed. This was an assignment done with pencil crayon in second semester at Mohawk. The assignment was to design a sign for a grocery store department of your choice. Then out of all the students in my year the owner of a grocery store came in and picked his favourite to use at his store. Out of over 100 students I came in 5th place. According to my instructor he really liked my design, it just wasn't the style the owner was looking for. This was definitely another encouraging memory. I really felt all the time and effort I put into this one paid off. I believe that no matter what it is, you should always put your 110% into it. Let me know what you think! :D

"Flatbed" Design

Good morning everyone. For my post of the day I decided I would post up this design that I completely designed in Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop. It was completed during third semester at Mohawk College. The assignment was to create a design for this company, called "Flatbed inc.", that way they would had something to hand out to potential clients. We had to take this design and transfer it into Quarkxpress, this was my first time ever using Quark. I definitely prefer Adobe programs. I really like the outcome of this design, I spent many hours perfecting it. Let me know what you think! :D

Hey everyone, hope everyone is having a great day! I just thought that I'd post a design that I completed in third semester at Mohawk College. We had to form groups and design a logo for our group. We all designed a couple of logos and brought it to the table to choose as a group which one we all liked best. It just so happened that mine was the favourite. This really made me start feeling proud of my artwork. The more proud I felt throughout each assignment the better my artwork developed. I guess the secret to accomplishing great artwork is to believe in yourself.

"Wilderness"

Annnnnd finally complete! Here is a little something that I had to complete for homework for my Creative Portfolio class. My instructor Leif Peng (Here is a link to his website leifpeng.com) wanted us to take the weekly topics from illustrationfriday.com, and interpret it through our own design and post it weekly. This week it happened to be "wilderness". I went with my first thought towards the word "wilderness" and that was a fierce lion, a lion that has to fight in the wilderness to survive. It took me about two hours to sketch this one up. I actually feel pretty pleased with it, although I feel like I still need to work on my originality. I hope you like it!

Garden Fairy

Hey guys, I thought I would post an oldie. I painted this in Grade 12, created with Oil Paint. Now is currently hanging up in a music studio of the amazing Marcio Novelli (check out his music @ http://www.myspace.com/marcionovelli), a very important person in my life. Someone who has appreciated my art work from day one, without his encouragement and big heart I wouldn't be who I am today. This painting always brings back memories to me of high school, and the one place that I felt like I truely belonged back then, the art classroom, where I had a really great teacher who taught me so much. I remember spending so many of my breaks in that classroom trying to perfect my paintings to my satisfaction. I now look at this painting and realize how much I have improved. It brings a lot of positive and encouraging emotions. Hope you like it! :D
